Centro de Innovaci\u00f3n y Tecnolog\u00eda, the agricultural association La Uni\u00f3 Llauradora i Ramadera, and the company Analco Auxiliar Calzado, S.A.U, presented yesterday, February 18, in Sueca (Valencia province), the results of various projects focused on the valorization of rice straw, yielding very promising outcomes. The event was inaugurated by the Secretary-General of LA UNI\u00d3, Carles Peris, and the Regional Secretary for Environment and Territory, Ra\u00fal M\u00e9rida.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-20741 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/idibe.umh.es\/files\/2025\/02\/Jornada-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">More than 120 attendees, including farmers, scientists, public institutions, technology providers, research centers, and financial entities, participated in this event, where circular economy-based solutions were presented to add value to rice straw waste\u2014a residue that amounts to 50,000 to 60,000 tons per season in the Albufera of Valencia alone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Under the theme &#8220;From Problem to Possible Solutions: Results on the Utilization of Rice Straw,&#8221; key speakers included Henoc P\u00e9rez (INESCOP), Jose Ramon Martinez Guillen (IDiBE), Jos\u00e9 Antonio L\u00f3pez (Analco), Pablo Sanz Fern\u00e1ndez (AIMPLAS &#8211; Technological Institute of Plastics), and Pepe Mor\u00e1n and Pepe Castro (LA UNI\u00d3). The event was moderated and coordinated by Enrique Barraj\u00f3n-Catal\u00e1n (IDiBE-UMH), the principal investigator of the involved projects.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20753 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/idibe.umh.es\/files\/2025\/02\/1739904304499-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Image of Enrique Barraj\u00f3n at the event.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The presented results stem from the Biotech-Rice project, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain, and the Straw4Footwear project, funded by the Valencian Innovation Agency (IVACE+i Innovaci\u00f3n). Both initiatives focus on valorizing rice straw by developing new ingredients for the footwear and cosmetics industries and have demonstrated technical, economic, and social feasibility to all stakeholders involved in rice straw management.
