{"id":23657,"date":"2025-10-02T05:56:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T05:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idibe.umh.es\/?p=23657"},"modified":"2025-10-02T05:56:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T05:56:36","slug":"a-topical-cream-developed-at-idibe-umh-reduces-the-side-effects-of-chemotherapy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/idibe.umh.es\/en\/2025\/10\/02\/a-topical-cream-developed-at-idibe-umh-reduces-the-side-effects-of-chemotherapy\/","title":{"rendered":"A topical cream developed at IDiBE\u2013UMH reduces the side effects of chemotherapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"228\" data-end=\"551\">Researchers from the <strong data-start=\"249\" data-end=\"352\">Institute for Research, Development and Innovation in Healthcare Biotechnology of Elche (IDiBE-UMH)<\/strong>, Asia Fern\u00e1ndez Carvajal and Antonio Ferrer Montiel, are taking part in a <strong data-start=\"427\" data-end=\"470\">pioneering international clinical trial<\/strong> that shows significant improvements in the quality of life of cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"553\" data-end=\"833\">Up to <strong data-start=\"559\" data-end=\"630\">80% of patients treated with taxane- or platinum-based chemotherapy<\/strong> develop <strong data-start=\"639\" data-end=\"692\">chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN)<\/strong>, a side effect that causes pain, tingling, and loss of sensation in the hands and feet, and can even lead to discontinuation of treatment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"1181\">The study, published in the scientific journal <em data-start=\"882\" data-end=\"919\">Clinical and Translational Oncology<\/em>, demonstrates that an <strong data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"991\">innovative topical formulation (Oncapsisens\u00ae)<\/strong>, developed by the company <strong data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1038\">Prospera Biotech<\/strong> \u2014a spin-off of IDiBE-UMH\u2014, can <strong data-start=\"1070\" data-end=\"1140\">significantly reduce the incidence of this neuropathy in the hands<\/strong> and improve patients\u2019 quality of life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"1183\" data-end=\"1333\">The clinical trial was conducted in <strong data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1258\">nine hospitals in Spain and Belgium<\/strong> with the participation of <strong data-start=\"1285\" data-end=\"1310\">142 oncology patients<\/strong>.
