The Sax City Council has announced the winners of the Alberto Sols Award, and Ángel Nadal has received the Prize for Outstanding Basic Research for his distinguished career as a researcher in the field of diabetes.

His research has focused primarily on type 2 diabetes and the effects of endocrine disruptors and their relationship with obesity and diabetes. In 2006, he demonstrated that exposure to bisphenol-A induces hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance in adult male mice. Later, his group discovered that exposure to bisphenol-A during pregnancy predisposes both mothers and male offspring to the development of type 2 diabetes. These findings were pivotal in establishing the link between EDC exposure and diabetes mellitus.

Nadal is currently a Professor of Physiology and Deputy Director of IDiBE – UMH at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, as well as a Group Leader at CIBERDEM. His research and advocacy have significantly contributed to changes in regulations on endocrine disruptors being implemented across the European Union.
