🧠 Seminar: “Programming and Reprogramming Neuronal Circuits”
📅 Thursday, October 3 – 12:00 h
📍 Von Humboldt Room – Torregaitán Building (UMH, Elche)
Dr. Mohammed Mostajo-Radji (USC Genomics Institute, University of California Santa Cruz, USA) will give a seminar entitled “Programming and Reprogramming Neuronal Circuits.”
In this talk, Dr. Mostajo-Radji will present evidence obtained from brain organoids generated from pluripotent stem cells, demonstrating that neuronal identity is much more plastic and dynamic than traditionally assumed.
The seminar will address the following topics:
-
Use of high-density electrophysiology and transcriptomic profiling to map neuronal transitions.
-
Classification of neurons using Machine Learning, revealing previously undescribed intermediate states.
-
Development of new region-specific brain organoid models in mammals and birds for comparative studies of neuronal circuits.
-
Impact of high-risk autism-associated genes on neuronal specification, synaptic integration, and network physiology.
A unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the latest advances in neuroscience, including the study of brain organoids, neuronal plasticity, and new computational tools applied to brain biology.
