Today is World Huntington’s Disease Day and from IDiBE – UMH we want to unite to give visibility to this pathology. It is a rare, hereditary disease that causes the progressive degradation of nerve cells in the brain, which generally causes movement, cognitive or psychiatric disorders. Its symptoms can occur at any time, but they often appear for the first time between 30 and 50 years of age and it is estimated that around 4,000 people in Spain suffer from it.
Although there is no cure, the combination of medications that treat the symptoms together with non-pharmacological therapies manage to improve the quality of life of people who suffer from this pathology. Therefore, it is necessary to continue researching Huntington’s disease.
