PTI Quantamaster Spectrofluorometer

The steady-state spectrofluorimeter PTI (Photon Technology International) QuantaMaster (Model QM-6/2003) is a modular instrument that allows steady-state fluorescence measurements, excitation and fluorescence spectra, kinetics, as well as measurements of polarised fluorescence and fluorescence of solids.

The continuous excitation source is an Xe lamp. The sample compartment has a computer-controlled holder for four 10 x 10 mm cuvettes (thermostatisable) and a motorised stirrer, which can be interchanged with a variable angle solids holder. The equipment is connected to a peltier and the temperature is controlled by software. Two motorised polarisers (Glan-Thompson) for the excitation and emission channels are available as accessories. The equipment is very versatile and is specially designed for studies of biological activity as a function of time and temperature, such as protein folding/unfolding, lipid phase changes, protein-ligand interactions, etc., as well as for the characterisation of luminescent materials, both in solid and liquid state. The temperature range can be programmed between -10ºC and 80ºC, allowing heating and cooling temperature programmes at different speeds.
