New Publication from the IDiBE Team

Today we’d like to share the latest work published by researchers from the Diabesity and Islet Research Lab (https://dialab.umh.es/) within the Basic Diabetes Research Unit of our institution (https://diabetes.umh.es/).

The article is led by Dr. Ivan Quesada (IDiBE-UMH) and Dr. Everardo Magalhães Carneiro (Universidade Estadual de Campinas), with contributions from our researchers Paloma Alonso-Magdalena, Sergi Soriano, Angel Nadal, Laura Marroquí Esclapez, Eva Brú Tarí, Talía Boronat Belda, and Manuel Castellano Muñoz.

Titled “Inhibition of glucagon secretion from pancreatic α-cells by the bile acid TUDCA involves a S1PR2-PI3K pathway,” the study explores the role of bile acids as metabolic modulators in the context of type 2 diabetes (T2D). It demonstrates that acute administration of the bile acid TUDCA inhibits glucagon secretion in both mouse pancreatic islets and the αTC1-9 cell line.

These results expand the known therapeutic properties of TUDCA, pointing toward new strategies for glycemic control in diabetes.

Congratulations to all the authors for this valuable contribution to the search for innovative diabetes therapies!
