Last weekend, November 8 and 9, the Bioactive Molecules Design and Development research group, led by Dr. María Herranz López, took part in the 17th Science Week of Torrevieja, organized by the cultural association Ars Creatio.

Researchers Irene Pomares Bri, Verónica Ruiz Torres, and Marta Fernández Oliver led the interactive workshop “Discover Your Metabolism: Technology and Health Against Obesity,” which drew great interest from visitors of all ages.

Over the two days, participants were able to learn about their body composition —including fat percentage, muscle mass, and metabolic age— using bioimpedance technology. They also had the opportunity to visualize their brown adipose tissue through a thermal camera and take part in a healthy eating workshop, where they discovered how small lifestyle changes can improve metabolism and prevent disease.

More than 100 people took part in the activities offered throughout the weekend, enjoying a hands-on experience that combined science, technology, and health.

“It was very rewarding to see how people were genuinely interested in understanding how their bodies work and how research can help us take better care of our health,” said the researchers.

Through initiatives like this, IDiBE strengthens its commitment to science outreach, bringing biomedical research closer to the public and demonstrating how knowledge can improve our quality of life.
