Today, November 14th, we commemorate World Diabetes Day, a key date to raise awareness about the significant health and social impact of this disease, as well as the importance of research and prevention.

At IDiBE–UMH, we have a Diabetes Research Unit (UNIBAD) fully dedicated to studying the molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms involved in diabetes and its complications.

This unit is composed of three highly specialized research groups:

🔬 Islet Cell Signaling Lab
Studies how chemical pollutants influence glucose homeostasis.

🤰 Diabesity and Islet Research Lab
Focuses on the pathophysiology of gestational diabetes and its relevance to the later development of type 2 diabetes, with a special emphasis on obesity as a risk factor.

🥼 Islet Biology Lab
Works to understand the molecular differences between alpha and beta cells that allow the former to survive during the development of diabetes.

🤝 In addition, our unit actively collaborates with healthcare research centers such as Fundació Fisabio, strengthening the scientific ecosystem and advancing solutions to improve the metabolic health of the population.

📣 Beyond scientific work, our researchers engage in extensive outreach and awareness activities, bringing knowledge about diabetes closer to society and promoting healthy lifestyles and a culture of prevention.
