This study investigates the behavior of astaxanthin (ASX)—a natural carotenoid with strong antioxidant properties—within complex biological membranes. The findings show that ASX remains in its monomeric state in the membrane, inserts at an approximate 20º angle relative to the membrane normal, and integrates between phospholipid chains. Its position enables efficient antioxidant activity across different membrane depths, highlighting its therapeutic potential in oxidative stress-related conditions and its possible applications in health, nutrition, and cosmetics.
